Canon Pixma 287 problem with cartridge holder slamming the side

Problem:  I have a Canon Pixma 287, after clean the Cartridge holder keeps slamming the side of the printer. 

Things I 've done so far
1.  Further investigation of the matter seems to suggest that the problem is the "Encoder strip"
